Clawed & Cornered on Kiss

If you haven't heard of the Kiss App, you are in for a unique treat. As a reader on the go I'm always looking for fun new ways to read, and an app I can download on my phone sounded like a just that. So how does it work? You download the app on your phone, do a bit of searching, then start reading. IHere is what their app says:

"... you can access books chapter by chapter, so you can easily squeeze in some reading time on the go or curled up in bed.

It is a "coin" based system where you give coins to read more. Of course you can buy coins, but you can also earn them by doing daily check-ins, watching advertisement videos, that kind of thing. It's an interesting system much like a lot of free game apps on the market right now. I'm still getting used to it, but I'm enjoying it so far.

Banned Books Week Hop And Giveaway

Today I'm post-poning the creature feature to take part in a very important blogfest honoring banned books. It was brought to my attention by the fantastic I Am A Reader Not A Writer blog . Nearly every one of the great Ellen Hopkins's novels has been banned somewhere. She writes about things that challenge kids today, sex, drugs, prostitution, terrible things for sure, but things kids are dealing with whether we like it or not. Laurie Halse Anderson's Speak, about a girl who is raped, is banned in many places. Others may surprise you such as The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares, Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling, The House of Night novels by P.C. Cast, The Golden Compass novels by Philip Pullman, and the Vampire Academy novels by Richelle Mead. There are so many more that it saddens me to go on.
