In the chaos of editing, writing, cover designing, and preparing for the release of the final novel in the channeler series, it appears that fall sneaked up upon me. While driving back and forth between the house we're selling and the one we just bought (150 miles!) I normally have my nose pointed (don't worry, I'm not the one driving!) at a notebook, diligently writing. But during this last trip last week I wasn't able to write due to a headache (couldn't be overworking myself, naw) so I actually looked around and enjoyed the company and the ride. Fall colors has transformed the landscape into golds, browns, reds, and oranges, much to my surprise. The last time I looked up I think it was spring. Seriously. The realization was a splash of cold water. I must step back and breathe, enjoy my family and friends, and live. Connecting with other writers is a fantastic way to stay inspired, keep your writing fresh, learn more about writing, and to build your platform. Gone are the days of the reclusive writer, and I say good riddance! It had romantic appeal back when I was a kid, dreaming of hiding out in a cabin, writing away my days with no one to bother me. But as an adult I look back at that fantasy and realize you can’t learn much all hidden away by yourself. And I love to keep learning! Writing Tip: Get on Twitter and join in writer chats, or join Goodreads and chat with authors and/or readers. The writer's road can be a lonely one but it doesn't have to be. Have you ever wanted to chat with other writers, meet agents, editors of publishing housing, and authors? Or at least ease drop on their chat? You can achieve this by attending conferences but let's face it, they are getting hard to afford in this economy. There is another way. Every Thursday night on Twitter there was a fabulous chat called #Scribechat. I met a lot of authors, agents, editors, and fellow writers by attending that chat. Unfortunately the hostess, Lia Keyes, had to step down due to other commitments so the chat is going away.
