This year I am thankful for many things but since this is my blog about my writer's journey I thought I'd focus on that. Great links for writers will be involved so read on! #1) I am thankful for the use of my right hand. It seems like a simple thing until you lose it. Several years ago I broke it and my right wrist. The doctor said I would be lucky to get 60% use of it back. That was unacceptable to me. I finished six months of physical therapy in two and not only got full use of my hand back, but full strength as well. #2) I am thankful for my critique group the Scribe Sisters . A good critique group is like finding that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Such a thing is almost unobtainable it seems and yet is so worth the hunt when you do find it. A fabulous new agent with D4EO literary , Weronika Janczuk , is looking for a reader to perform a literary intern-type job for her. It will be unpaid but the rewards are better than mere monetary. You will get the opportunity to ask an agent in-depth questions about writing and publishing. So what do you have to do? That's the beautiful part, you get to read. As fun as that sounds there is more to it than that. Weronika will send you 2~5 partial or full manuscripts a month and you will have to read them in a timely manner~two days tops~then write a one-paragraph reader's report. If you are hunting for an agent and haven't discovered agents who blog yet, you don't know what you're missing. Of course there's the obvious things you can learn from them such as what they're looking for, how they'd like you to submit, and that kind of thing. But there is also a wealth of knowledge that many of them are willing to share through their blogs. And then there are those who offer up their services through contests they run on their blogs. The dynamic Nathan Bransford of Curtis Brown Ltd. runs contests all the time and offers up not only advice on writing, but great information about the publishing industry.
