What an odd thing for inspiration you may be thinking. Well that's me, odd. ;) Seriously though, I'm working on my short story for the Winter Wonders anthology (due out this December) so snowy landscapes have dominated my computer screen in an attempt to inspire me during some of the hottest days of the summer here. Thankfully, it's been working! I finished the first draft of the story and am working on editing it right now. So what's with the melting part? Well, this month I wrote about the warming of the Arctic and its effect on the animals there in an article for the IS Foundation. I'm loving being a part of the foundation and contributing with an article each month. It's fun to write non-fiction for a change. Did I really just say that?! My very good friend and fellow author, Christine Fonseca were so inspired by the wonderful things they're doing, that we have joined the volunteer team at the IS Foundation (Ian Somerhalder Foundation. Yes Vampire Diaries fans, that Ian Somerhalder ;). They are an amazing organization that protects endangered species, abandoned and abused animals, works toward cleaner energy, and helps kids of all ages by educating them about the world around us and being a support net for them. So what does a volunteer do? Well, Christine and I work for different departments within the IS Foundation. I write for the environment department as their Environmental Division Content Coordinator (my first article is up now! Click here to read it.) and Christine writes for their youth page as their Youth Program Content Coordinator. You don't have to be a volunteer to make a difference though. It may seem like an odd picture to feed my muse, but there's a fantastic story behind why. You may remember the Spruce Knoll for Endangered Species mission. Well that mission has changed and become much bigger. Now all three novels in the channeler series (The Secret of Spruce Knoll, Channeler’s Choice, Rise of the Rector) will go toward a new, fantastic charity. Unlike the last charity who would not allow me to mention them, this new charity gave me approval to announce that I’m donating to them! Though it’s a new charity some of you may have heard of it (say maybe the Vampire Diaries fans among you). It is the IS Foundation which stands for Ian Somerhalder Foundation (yep, the very one from Vampire Diaries)! I’m incredibly excited to be giving to this amazing charity because they do so much for not only animals, but the youth and the environment.
