Happy Halloween! As you may have guessed from my background, it is one of my favorite times of the year. Today's post is all about my favorite treat, books!

If you love books as much as I do then chances are you love Goodreads as well. If not, quick, click on this link and check them out because you are seriously missing out! It is one of my favorite places, rating right up there with a great coffee shop. Right now the Goodreads Choice Awards are going on and you don't want to miss them! Here is a bit about it:

There are 15 Nominees each in 20 Categories. If you have a different favorite, you can write them in! I'm working hard to get Flight For Control by Karlene Petitt up in the Thriller Catagory, the amazing Transcend by Christine Fonseca in the Young Adult Fiction catagory, and hoping that just maybe To Ride A Puca might get a few write in votes for the Young Adult Fantasy & Sci-Fi catagory. There will be three rounds of voting, the first of which began yesterday. Details:

Opening Round: October 30 – November 11
Voting open to 15 official nominees and write-in votes.

Semifinal Round: November 12 – November 18

Final Round: November 19 – November 27
The field narrows to the top 10 books in each category, and members have one last chance to vote!

Support your favorite authors or books and vote before November 11th! Have a wonderful, safe Halloween. I hope it is filled with many wonderful treats.

Back In The Saddle

The Surrey Book Fair was fun and exhausting but now I'm home and it's time for me to get back in the writing saddle. I prefer to think of it that way as opposed to the grindstone because for me it's nothing like a grindstone. I have pictures for you, but they're in my coat which is 150 miles away... I'm working hard on a special project that I hope to have finished by next month.

I'm still on tour in celebration of the release of Rise of a Rector as well. Today I'm over at my good friend and fabulous author, Christine Fonseca's place. I hope you'll drop by and say hello, right after you enter the contest below:

Tours and Cover Reveals

Before I get to the tour stops for the day, the day is not all about me. A great friend of mine is revealing the cover for her latest novel and I get to be part of that reveal! She is an amazing author, one of my absolute favorites, the kind where I will buy ever book she ever writes. Yep seriously, that good.

Karen Amanda Hooper, author of Tangled Tides and Grasping at Eternity, is sharing her newest cover today. The sequel to Grasping at Eternity, book 2 of The Kindrily series, is titled Taking Back Forever.

Karen and her cover designer, Alexandra Shostak (This woman inspires me. I want to be like her when I grow up as a cover designer ;), have worked side by side to create the Taking Back Forever cover. After lots of hard work (and a lot of love) here it is…

Want to know more? Here’s a summary of Taking Back Forever.

Forever is worth the fight.

Maryah erased all memory of her past lives, but she couldn’t erase her soul mate Nathan, or his undying love. Now, Maryah and Nathan have a second chance at a future together, but first Maryah must remember the person she used to be and embrace her supernatural gifts—more than one kindrily member’s life depends on it.

Maryah’s power is Harmony’s best hope of finding her kidnapped soul mate, Gregory. But Harmony isn’t big on asking anyone for help, and she’s tired of waiting, so she’s taking matters into her own hands. Heaven help anyone who stands in her way.

To celebrate, Karen and Alexandra are giving away signed paperbacks of Grasping at Eternity. (Signed by Karen AND Alexandra!) Contest is open internationally! To enter click here.

Alexandra Shostak is a writer of dark and fantastical things, mostly meant for teenagers. She is a freelance cover designer, and is available to do covers and interior artwork directly for authors. She is also a former Irish dancer, a guitar player, and the person who can get you through the zombie apocalypse without getting bitten.

If you’re especially worried about the zombie apocalypse, you can find her in one of these places:
or on Twitter as @a_shostak

Karen was born and bred in Baltimore, frolicked and froze in Colorado for a couple of years, and is currently sunning and splashing around Florida with her two beloved dogs. She's addicted to coffee, chocolate, and complicated happily-ever-afters. Due to her strong Disney upbringing, she still believes in fairytales and will forever sprinkle magic throughout all of her novels.

Monday's Muse~Inspiration and News

My muse: Fall is always an incredibly inspiring time for me, the colors, the smells, the tastes. It is my favorite time of year and doesn't last long enough. For those who don't know yet, I've caved and joined Pinterest (see my nifty sidebar picture) and I'm finding a lot of inspiration there. The fun part is, I can post pictures that inspire my writing. I'm loving it. But one does have to be careful about the rights of images that they pin. There are sites that approve Pinterest, such as Barnes and Noble, these are the safest to pin from. I plan on only using sites that approve it and my own pictures.

My news: It's officially release day for the final novel in my channeler series, Rise of a Rector! It is currently available in eBook and expected to be available in hardback in about a week. I'm deliriously happy and exhausted but in a good way. Today is the first leg of my tour and I'm over at Candace's Book Blog, or rather, Aiden is, to talk about a scary moment in his life. I hope you'll stop by and say hi to Aiden.

Along with this tour is a giveaway of course! On Friday November 2nd and Saturday November 3rd, my acclaimed historical fantasy about the last of the druids in Ireland, To Ride A Puca, will be FREE on Amazon in eBook format! But it's only for two days so those of you who have a Kindle, mark your calendars and get ready to download it. My goal is to hit at least 1,000 downloads those two days and if I do I'll be giving away $10 in either eBooks or printed books from Amazon, B&N, or The Book Depository, winner's choice. To enter, sign up below, but don't forget to download To Ride A Puca on November 2nd or 3rd!

Wednesday Writing Goals~Start Anew

My goal last week was to finish the final rounds of editing on the project I was working on, and I did! *throws confetti and dances in it* Finally I feel as though I've broken free of the undertow and am starting to rise above water. Now I can relax and get ready for my release celebration and tour for Rise of a Rector coming up next week.

I've been MIA a bit on the blog scene lately because I've had a lot to do domestically as well, what with moving to a new house and working on selling the one we're currently in. Plus, the holidays are coming, fast. Hang on to your pocket books peeps, it's just around the corner. But before that craziness starts I'm embracing my favorite holiday of all, Halloween! My tour for Rise won't be like most tours, of course there will be stops at other blogs and interviews, but here on my blog I'll be taking part in some Halloween fun. Check back next week for more on that.

As for reading goals, I've been going slow because of the editing I've been buried under. I finally got to start reading The Help though and wow, just wow. This book is a MUST read. How about you, did you make your writing goals last week? What about reading goals?

Monday's Muse: Interview And News

Only one more week before the release of Rise of a Rector, the final novel in the channeler series! To celebrate, today I'm being interviewed over at Whispers at Moonlight, a fabulous blog by one of my lovely Romanian fans Antonia Calina. I hope you'll drop by and say hi, you'll love her blog. Just remember to click on the translate button at the top of the page.

In other news, an online friend of mine, Michelle Leighton (M. Leighton) has a huge announcement to share that will lift the spirits of self-published authors everywhere. She has signed a three book deal with Berkley (Penguin) for her The Wild Ones Series! If you've read this series, or any of Michelle's other books, you know why. She is a fantastic writer.

Both of these great ladies were my inspiration this week. And I'm getting ready for the Surrey International Writers Conference Book Fair on Saturday October 20th (starts at 5:30pm) where I'll be doing a book signing! That's been inspiring me like crazy too. How about you, what inspired you last week?

New Release October Feature

Since reading is a huge part of my life~as it should be a huge part of every writer's life~I've decided to try and feature at least one fabulous new release that I'm dying to check out, and to share with you each month. This month my feature is Dead Heat by Lisa Nowak.

A man who longs for a son and a boy who can't escape his father's violence. Even death can't break their bond.

Alex is a machine whisperer. He can tell what's wrong with a broken-down car with a touch. But his gift can't save him from the brutality of his meth-addict father. For two years, Alex experienced kindness through Cole, his mentor. Now Cole's dead, and the violence in Alex's life is escalating. When Cole reappears as a ghost, Alex clings to the tenuous link. Then he learns Cole might've sacrificed his chance to cross over. Jade, the first girl to look beyond Alex's past, assures him Cole can reach the Other Side-if Alex escapes from his dad. But a previous terrifying attempt has convinced Alex it's impossible. Unless he can find the courage to try, his friend may be earthbound forever.
"Dead Heat blew me away. It's a gritty ghost story interwoven with all-too-real subject matter that will make you cry for Alex, ache for Cole, and thank God for Jade. I was invested in these characters' lives and you will be too."
~ Stacey Wallace Benefiel, author of the Zellie Wells trilogy

In addition to being a YA author, Lisa is a retired amateur stock car racer, an accomplished cat whisperer, and a professional smartass. She writes coming-of-age books about kids in hard luck situations who learn to appreciate their own value after finding mentors who love them for who they are.

Mark Your Calendar & Meet Me

If you've never been to the Surrey International Writer's Conference, you're missing out. Not only is it in one of the most beautiful places in the world (Surrey, BC), it is a fantastic conference renowned the world over for its excellent cariculum. I am a bit biased because I love Canada, but truly, it is an excellent conference. This year, I'm thrilled to announce that I'll be signing at the Surrey Book Fair on Saturday October 20th starting at 5:30pm during the conference. I'm crazy excited, and not just because I have a wonderful excuse to go to Canada.

I'll be signing alongside two of my good friends, Cheri Lasota and Stacey Wallace Benefiel. To make it even more fun, we're carpooling up there! We're going to have such a blast, I can hardly wait.

If you live anywhere near Surrey, or even if you don't and you're just dying to meet us, I hope you'll mark your calendar and come see us at the Surrey Book Fair this month so we're not sitting at our tables all alone. Did I mention that super agent Donald Maass will be there signing as well?! After seeing him, come see us! We'll be the one's with a giant bowl of Halloween candy on our table. And if no one drops by to buy our signed books, we'll just have to eat it all by ourselves. :)
