Monday's Muse~Become

Image
Last week my inspiration was a fantastic read. You know the feeling when your heart pounds from the words, you clutch a book tighter, and flip eagerly through the pages? The book I just finished reading elicited such a feeling. It is BECOME, by Ali Cross . At first glance this book appears to be a tale about the daughter of Lucifer, but it is so very much more than that. It is actually about the daughter of Loki and is a beautiful blend of mythology and religion. It surprised and delighted me. Here is my review: From the depths of Helheim to the lofts of Asgard, this novel propels us on a breathtaking journey of self-sacrifice and redemption. The author takes characters that should be impossible to sympathize with and makes you fall in love with them. I was completely swept away and utterly surprised at how much I enjoyed this story. The author has made a fan for life of me. My review is short, I know, but alas, I’m not a reviewer, I’m a writer. Just trust me and add this to your...

Great Read: Clockwise

Image
For today's, my good friend, and fabulous author, Elle Strauss, has released a new cover for her time-travel young adult novel, Clockwise. And I just had to share it with you. If you haven't read this book yet, trust me, you've got to! Check it out: A teenage time traveler accidentally takes her secret crush back in time. Awkward. Casey Donovan has issues: hair, height and uncontrollable trips to the 19th century! And now this --she’s accidentally taken Nate Mackenzie, the cutest boy in the school, back in time. Awkward. Protocol pressures her to tell their 1860 hosts that he is her brother and when Casey finds she has a handsome, wealthy (and unwanted) suitor, something changes in Nate. Are those romantic sparks or is it just “brotherly” protectiveness? When they return to the present, things go back to the way they were before: Casey parked on the bottom of the rung of the social ladder and Nate perched high on the very the top. Except this time her heart is br...

Angela Carlie's Book Release Celebration

Image
I know it's the off Friday for Creature Features but I have a creature feature from a different author to share with you! The second book in the Lords of Shifters series, Spider Wars, is now available! I recently discovered this series by author Angela Carlie and was pleasantly surprised by it (despite the fact that I'm totally creeped out by the cover of book 2... or perhaps because of it ;). Here is a bit about it: What happens when a species is tired of being stomped on? Jess' life has never been ordinary. After all, life on the road with an immortal family of gypsies is hardly predictable. Living in the small town of White Salmon, Washington has brought some normality to her life. But when her cheating, sometimes boyfriend, Nicu, gets involved with a group of arachneshifters, life gets a little sticky. Will she be able to save him from the web he's spun? More importantly, how much is she willing to risk to get him back? This novel is meant for mature reader...

Great Read by Michelle Muto

Image
I've decided to start a new feature on the blog called Great Reads. I love books and though I'm not a reviewer, I want to share some of my favs with you. So every now and then you'll see a Great Read feature here on my blog to spread the word about fantastic books. Have you heard about the haunting new novel by Michelle Muto called Don't Fear The Reaper? Oh my gosh, if you haven't, you've got to check it out. It's everything I love in a novel, dark, rich, and absolutely gripping. Michelle was kind enough to send the first chapter over for me to share with you peeps. Here is a bit about it first: Grief-stricken by the murder of her twin, Keely Morrison is convinced suicide is her ticket to eternal peace and a chance to reunite with her sister. When Keely succeeds in taking her own life, she discovers death isn’t at all what she expected. Instead, she’s trapped in a netherworld on Earth and her only hope for reconnecting with her sister and navigating the ...

Today she's revealing the cover and I guarantee it will knock your socks off. Before entering this life, Maryah did the unthinkable—she er...

Book Release Celebration~It's a little haywire

Image
Today I'm celebrating the release of a dear friend's outstanding, illustrated middle grade novel, It's a little haywire by Elle Strauss. It was my distinct pleasure to design the cover for this novel, but I didn't do all the work. We tweaked and worked on it, but it was missing something. Then Elle had the idea to add a dog drawn by one of her kids to the cover. They drafted it up, sent it my way, I added it to the cover, and perfection! Now that's a special touch that most authors don't do. It made this one of my favorite covers that I've designed so far. Here is a bit about the novel: Owen True is eleven and eleven twelfths and has been “exiled” to the small crazy town of Hayward, WA, aka, Haywire, while his mother is on her honeymoon. All he has to whittle away the time is the company of Gramps, his black lab Daisy, and his Haywire friends, Mason and Mikala Sweet. They don’t look so hot this year, in fact, the whole town has gone to pot since the mi...

Fane has just arrived in Spruce Knoll in this scene: Jack-o-lanterns carved into frightening guises were placed throughout the house, on the coffee table, the loft stairs, even the kitchen counter.
