Monday's Muse~Avatar

A movie that makes me want to stand up and cheer is very rare. In fact, one hasn't come along for me since Braveheart. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of good movies out there, but I'm talking about that special catagory. You know the one, when a movie goes beyond just good and actual moves you. Avatar is that kind of movie.

It may not be for you. If you think humanity is infallable and the Earth will last forever no matter what we do to it, then you probably won't like this movie. But don't worry, you don't have to be a tree hugger to love it. More than just the story line, the cg was beyond amazing, we're talking a whole new level of technology. The world will pull you right in and the action will leave you breathless.

This movie made me fall in love with the sci-fi/fantasy genre all over again. I was beginning to worry about my waning interest in the genre that I've loved since I was a child. Now it's fully restored and I'm chomping at the bit as I outline my first YA fantasy novel!

  1. I love when a movie inspires me to write!

I haven't seen Avatar yet. I have to admit I'm a little turned off by the animation. I have a hard time getting into movies that aren't "real". I mean I know that District 9 was mostly just special effects, but it just felt so much more real to me.

  2. I’ve heard (and read) that the graphics alone in this movie make it a must see. One review (I wish in know where) said that if a person watched it, for the first time, on mute with no subtitles they would still love it. And a different review said that this movies graphics were so extraordinary that if they get just one step better and wanted to they could use actors and actresses who have passed away to act again in movies. I think that review was on Digital Bits.
I’m very eager to go and see this but I’ll probably just have to wait until it’s out on DVD.

  3. It's all true! If you don't have a big screen tv I highly recommend seeing it in the theater. This is one of those movies that sucks you in and the big screen adds so much to it! I can't wait to see it again.

  4. Alissa, I know exactly what you mean. I'm not a huge fan of animated movies either. But Avatar takes a step beyond animation. Its unlike anything that has come before it. The most amazing part of the movie was that it didn't feel like animation. The CG was that good! Live action people stood right next to CG characters and I couldn't tell the difference. Maybe I was just that emersed into the story, but I don't think so. I think it was just done that good!
