Monday's Muse~Battles & Avatar

Of course this picture is from the amazing James Cameron film Avatar. If you haven't seen it and you love the fantasy genre, crawl out from under your rock and run, don't walk, to the store to buy it. It's one of those movies that is so amazing they are re-releasing it in the theaters. As with every great vision, there are critics who don't agree with my take on the movie and that's okay. It inspired me and that's what was important.

This week in particular it inspired me while I wrote my latest chapter in which my main character risks everything for the sake of his friends. The chapter was another huge turning point for him, one that changes him forever. It was hard to write because it was hard for him.

My reading muse this week was You Wish by Mandy Hubbard. It was a blast to read! It took me right back to the magic and pressure of being sixteen. If you love YA you’ve got to make time to read this book!

The song that helped keep me inspired while writing this week's chapter was The Clairvoyant by Iron Maiden. Did anyone else out there have a tough chapter to work on this week? What got you through it?

  1. This week's chapter was a breeze, but I just spent all of the past month working on the previous chapter, and the only thing that got me through it was constantly plugging away through the slush and taking myself away from it with books. I've probably read more in the past month that I was working on Chapter 4 than I have all year :P Thank god for books.

Namely, thank god for The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Frozen Fire, Evermore and (as always) The Lady of the Light.

  2. Some chapters are tough like that. Thank goodness this month you had an easy one to follow it with! As much as everyone talks about Hunger Games I really need to pick it up...

  3. Oh! And The Mortal Instruments series. Yeah, I read a lot this past month :P

I really think HG is worth the read. It's short, it's fast, and it leaves you a little bit breathless. The world is interesting and there is plenty of action, but also plenty of internal dialogue, and just a little bit of romance sprinkled on top. Plus, you've waited until the final book comes out so you wont have to wait for it like the rest of us (especially after that cliff-hanger ending on book 2!).

  4. Sounds like my timing is perfect then! Thanks!

  5. I'm still having trouble revising my first chapter! I'm about halfway done with it and listening to the songs on my playlist has really helped.

OMG, The Hunger Games and Catching Fire are my favorites! I plan to go to the bookstore tomorrow to get Mockingjay.

And movie...I'd have to say Inception is the most inspiring movie I've seen lately. Although I am a huge fan of Avatar:)

  6. You poor thing! Stubborn chapters like that are the worst! Okay so now I have to get Mockingjay. I feel like I'm missing out on something. You've seen Inception already?! I'm so jealous!I want to see that so bad!

  7. Oh Heather, I'm AT my tough chapter! I'm reading and re-reading tips on what to do here, and I think I need to step away and just think about it!

I'm glad you got through your tough chapter, and I'm sure the book is better for it!
