Monday's Muse~Foggy Forest

This foggy forest inspired me last week because my main character takes a wild ride through a forest that looks very much like this one. She ends up somewhere completely unexpected that changes the course of her life. I'm really enjoying mixing historical with fantasy. It is both fun and challenging! I love it so much that I now have plans for at least two more historical young adult fantasy novels.

If you peeked over to the right you'll see I'm still reading Blood Promise. But, this last weekend I did make a huge dent in it. Though this novel in the series is a bit slower it's still very good and I'm really enjoying it when I get the chance to read it. I stopped at the bookstore and picked up Grave Witch by Kalayna Price. I looked at the first page and wow, I can hardly wait to read this!

The song that inspired me this week was Finan's Isle by Mairead Nesbitt. What inspired you this week? How are those of you participating in NaNoWriMo doing?

  1. What a beautiful and haunting picture. I could certainly get Inspired by this.

I'm changing the L/R and B/R. Repainting and redesigning to have a more pleasant space to write. It's important to have a comfortable and beautiful space to write.

  2. Oh wow, that picture would be perfect for my WIP because there's several scenes that take place in a forest (and one is in the early morning).

I'm not doing Nano this year - I'm still working on revisions. I hope to do a version of Nano in January with my CPs.

  4. It is a bit haunting isn't it Michael? Redoing your workspace is always a great way to get inspired. Have fun!

  5. That's awesome Melissa! Save it and use it for your background on your computer. That's what I love to do!

Best of luck on your revisions. I love the idea of doing your own version of Nano. I might just have to do that!

  7. I love this one, Heather. It could be creepy or magical, early morning or evening, comfortably cooling or sticky hot... Awesome!

  8. True Shannon, it could! That's part of the fun of it. Glad you liked it!

  9. Mixing historical and fantasy elements is something that I love doing. It intrigues me to answer "What If?"

What if Samuel McCord forced Washington, D.C. to keep its treaty with the Lakota nation and America is a doughnut country with its heart a place for only Native Americans? I hint at that in portions of FRENCH QUARTER NOCTURNE.

Your photo is indeed haunting, Roland

  10. I like the fog. Mysterious, and somewhat frightening. Yet soothing, somehow to me.

Love the new look to your blog, girl. Must be the time of year we all have to shake off the dust and do something different! I'm getting a new header soon too!

  11. I love the picture of that forest. One thing I miss about my former mountaintop abode was the foggy mornings. They were so silent and still that there was something almost magical about them.

  12. Indeed Roland, "what if?" Is the greatest question ever!

  13. Me too Lorelei, there's just something about the fog. I look forward to seeing what changes you'll be making to your header!

  14. That does sound absolutely magical Alissa! It would be hard to leave such a place.

  15. First, is it just me, or did you change the look of your blog recently? I usually read in Google reader, but I know it hasn't been *that* long since I've been here. I love the pic in the header and really think I would have noticed before. If not, sorry. But I do looooove the look!

Anyway...the beach always inspires me and I finally got to go for the first time in a long time this weekend. And the pic in your header (did I tell you I love it?) inspires me, too. Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to do any real writing for a while. :( Hopefully soon, though.

  16. Don't worry Kristi, I just did a bit of change for the season. Its only been this way a few days! I'm sorry to hear you haven't had the chance to do much writing lately. Here's hoping you get to soon!

  17. What a gorgeous picture--it just sparks ideas. On the opposite end of the scale to that picture, this week the first hints of summer arrived here in Melbourne, Australia. The sunshine inspired me for sure! It's connected with lots of habits and memories I love.

  18. Wow Amie, summer has arrived! I had no idea this was Australia's summer. The sunshine is very inspiring isn't it? Especially the first sign of it. Enjoy!

  19. Heather, I love Monday muse. I had such a day yesterday-- I missed it. But today I need my muse. I'm writing! I too love reality and fantasy, history and imagination... do you ever get lost in your world? Wouldn't that make a great story.

  20. No matter the day, I'm glad my muse could help you out Karlene! I hope today is much better for you. I often get lost in my worlds. And hey, that would make a great story...

  21. You know what I just realized? Duh. That the pics you post that inspire you are mainly scenic in nature. Which I'm guessing means you're strong with World Building. Something I need to work on! Very cool.
