Monday's Muse~Fae Warrior

Last week's chapter was so dark and emotionally charged that at times it was really hard to write. Those are the ones that turn out the best for me though so I made my way through it. That's probably why the climax is often so difficult for me to write. The entire story comes together and my heart and soul goes into it. Ah but what a feeling, being so close to the end! I'm only a few chapters away now.

I'm still reading The Iron Witch, and loving it more with each page, but I'm almost done with it! Last week I bought The Vespertine by Saundra Mitchell~whom I love~and The Clearing by Anne Riley~whom I love~so I have no idea which I'm going to read first. Can't wait! By the way, you can still enter to win a copy of The Clearing by going here.

The music that fed my muse this last week was the Dropkick Murphy's new CD, Going Out In Style. I’m a huge fan and as soon as I heard they had a new CD out I HAD to buy it. Wow am I glad I did.

Do you love writing the climax of your novel or do you find it a challenge? What inspired you this week?

  1. Heather, Thank you for the Monday muse. What inspired me was.... "two" rejections for my novel last week, and my "two" great friends at http://critiquesisterscorner.blogspot.com/
    who encouraged and supported me.

Can inspiration come from rejection? Yes. More to come on that next week. Have a great week!

  2. Yes indeed it can Karlene! I love that! We'll come out of this better writers with a better product. You inspire me!

  3. Congratulations Heather! You are almost there.... YAY! It is so awesome that you are on the final few chapters.

    Good luck with them!

  4. This is truly exciting, Heather, and I can just imagine the power of those dark scenes.

I'm one of those people who loves writing the climax and the ending the best. I scratch my head when knowledgeable people say that the ending is the hardest part, because for me it's true joy. Maybe I'd better think about that for a while! Thanks for a great post, and CONGRATS on being so close to 'The End.'

  5. The final few chapters either fly from my fingers or they pull at my heartstrings til tears come. Sometimes it is both -- not fun except for the reader hopefully.

Two rejections hit me yesterday. Ouch. It didn't exactly inspire me ... except perhaps to ride off into the sunset. But anyone can give up, right? Come by my blog for the start of my blog tour for THE BEAR WITH TWO SHADOWS, will you? Roland

  6. I also wanted to ask you if you would like to be a blog host for my blog tour. It would be an honor if you could fit it into your busy schedule. Roland

  7. I enjoyed writing it but I was so nervous in the process. So much tension and build up, I was afraid I wasn't going to do it justice!

  8. My biggest problem with writing the climax is that I can't stop and I'm uber aware of how the whole thing is passing by too quickly (at least for my taste). I want to savor, but I'm usually gushing out the first draft.

  9. The climax is always a thrill for me. My favorite parts of a novel are the first two-three chapters, the climax and the end (I write romance, so they’re always happily-ever-after ends and I love that). The middle has it’s ups and downs, and it’s those downs that I have to charge up that make the middle a bit trying, but any time spent with my characters is time well spent! :-)

  10. Michael, thank you! I'm so close I can almost taste the finish line of the first draft!

Linda, yay another person who loves writing endings! I'm looking forward to sending you chapters of this one!

Roland, I'm so sorry about the rejections. But that means you're two rejections closer to the right agent. I'd love to host you on your tour. I'll stop by for details.

  11. Lydia, I know what you mean. That always makes me nervous too. But that's what revision is for. ;)

Lindsey, me too! Great point too about time well spent. So true!

  12. Each manuscript has a different part that's hard to write. The hardest scene I ever wrote was one that was similar to something I experienced. It depressed me for a few days.

  13. Lisa, that happens to me a lot too. The first draft just gets to flowing so much that I can't slow down.

Theresa, I couldn't agree with you more. The scenes that pull on something from your life are by far the hardest!

  14. I love writing the climax. It means I'm almost finished the first draft, and soon I get to start my favorite part. Revisions. :D

I'm definitely going to have to read The Iron Witch. I've heard great things about it.

  15. Me too Stina! We should start a revision lovers club! LOL! You'll like The Iron Witch. It's one of my favorites so far this year.
